0825 drinking beer on the boat
I went to the gym of our university in the morning, and worked out a lot. I could try out every kinds of machines, I’m still not sure that I can get a membership of the gym tho. I become able to take lessons after getting a membership. There are a kind of dance and yoga, so I will attend these courses if I have a opportunity. What I concerned the most is the size of the machines. These were very very big to me. After working out for a while, I went to the station to meet up with Joris. While waiting for him, I had a hot-dog. The points I would like to take care during the conversation in English was to speak slowly and clearly. And take care about the grammar and structure of sentences a bit more carefully. My grammar of speaking English is really terrible, so I will try to use it deliberately. At first, we went to a bank to open my back account. He had made an appointment yesterday, so we could start a contract without waiting. However, I needed to take a BSN number with me to get a bank account if I try to get it after a week or so. This is why I have to go back to the branch on next Tuesday. We begun to walk around the city without having a purpose and goals. But it was very fun to hang out with him because we talked a lot of things, like cultural differences between Japan and Netherlands. He really knows well about Japan. I really respect him. Breestraat is one of the Main Street in Leiden and I saw a town hall. It was built in 14 century and looked solemnity and magnificent. The book store on the street also had an old atmosphere, feeling like I were in a Hally potter world. He said many students used this book store to buy their textbooks. I thought its a bit weird cause it is natural to buy textbooks in a university book store in Japan. I wanna ask him whether Dutch people often use Amazon to buy some books. In the evening, we decided to eat dinner at my hotel room. So, went to the supermarket. He said to me”I will make you a kind of Dutch sandwiches.” Also we bought German beer. The sandwiches he made for me was very delicious, the taste was like a Italian. I think dutch people like to eat something like sandwiches and always put ham and cheese and vegetables between slices of bread. I have been eating this kind of sandwiches since I arrive in Leiden. I think a bread is crumbling, and ham and cheese are a bit salty. Consequently, I feel thirsty easily and I always need to take a bottle of water with me. After eating some dinner with him, we went outside to have beer. There are a pub which we can drink beer on the boat. That would be one of the most precious memories in Netherlands I think. There are many places to drink outside in Netherlands but it only during the summer time. Id like to take on a boat and have some beer some day.
I heard it`s not so much expensive. We talked a lot of things on the boat but I was really surprised his knowledge about Japan. Even though he has never been to Japan, he knew the kansai direct and also about politics and history of Japan. Exactly he knew many things about Japan but especially I was amazed to hear the word “爵位” from his mouth. His curiosity about Japan and hard-working on it were worth respecting. I tried to find the words he didn’t know and explained it in English, but it was really tough to find them. Also we taught each other about drinking games. I wanted to say thank you to my senior who told me many kinds of drinking games when I was in Japan. I realized knowing about world history was very good topic to talk about with students in Europe. Fortunately I love world history, but I forgot a part of it, I realized I needed to recall the memories.
