0113 Barcelona day2
today was filled with many awesome things to do. In the morning I went to the Sagrada familia, which was designed by famous architecture Gaudi and now this is the most famous tourist place to visit in Barcelona. What I was inspired the most was the beauty of stained glasses on the wall of the cathedral. The church is very bright from the sunlight that comes in through the big stained glasses. Also I was amazed by the elaborate sculpture. I have been to several cathedrals in Europe but I haven’t seen this type of Jesus christ. He looked the ceiling instead of being looked like in the midst of painful. Gaudi seemed to put meanings on every single design in the cathedral. i think the Sagrada familia has less religious meaning and more touristic and commercial meanings. But the building must be the accumulation of passion and architectural knowledge that human beings have been taking over and I would like to see the completion of it.
After that, I went to have lunch in the bread shop and joined the free walking tour. The guide was from Ireland and her English was easy to understand. Also she was knowledgeable, fun and energetic. Also she emailed us the lists of recommended restaurants. Joining the walking tour taught me many things which I cannot learn from the internet. Especially I didn’t know about the history of catalunya and the relevance between the referendum and history of catalunya. Also after the ww1, there were very bloody and tragic conflict within the country and after 3 years it had been dominated by Franco, who promoted fascism and governed the country for 30 years. I really like the painting of picaso called ゲルニカ, which was written during the Spain civil war. After joining the tour, we went to the beach area and chilled out alongside the coast. The atmosphere was so nice.
