0115 Seville to Granada
we moved to Granada from Seville today. In the morning, we went to the cathedral of seville, which was famous for its size and ranked no.3 in European cathedrals. Btw it was super cold last night but I was provided only one very thin blanket so I felt so cold that I could not sleep well. But unlike yesterday, the weather was awesome so I didn’t feel lethargic thanks to the sun shine.
The cathedral was so beautiful because not only the size but also the delicate design. Also there was a grave of Columbus inside the cathedral. The grave was carried by four guys and one of them was inserting a sword into an apple, which showed that the catholic was recovered after long-term bloody fighting against islamic dynasties in Iberia peninsula. It made me realize how serious and long lasted the fighting between islam and catholic in Spain. The history of Spain till the end of 15 century was mainly about the religious conflict. You can see the significant feature of spanish architecture also in this church. There were minarets and small gardens inside the site. This cathedral was used to be a site of islamic architecture but after the reconquista, the building was transformed into Catholic Church. Also one thing I found interesting in that place was to have seen that many asian tourists, especially Koreans, were taking many pictures in front of the grave of Columbus with smile and peace sign. It looked so weird for my sight and Im pretty sure that the invention and spending of smart phone has changed our way of traveling. Before the invention of smart phone or portable camera, how people enjoyed traveling??? They didn’t keep memories by pictures. I can imagine they stay longer at the same place where they were surprised to see and try to write down what they have seen and thought during their travel. On the other hand, we modern people travel with cameras and smartphones. They even look to do traveling to take pictures and to keep them in “memory” and review and show what they took to friends. Well, Im also one of the modern people who take many pictures during my travel so I have no right to criticize their way of traveling but I feel awkward to it to some extent. Suppose that the purpose of traveling is to meet with new and other cultures you have never experienced before, should you take so many pictures during the precious time just to boast of your trips to other people? Instead of that, I insist you should spend more time to think and talk with people while you traveling.
Anyway I went to the same bakery to grab sandwiches for lunch after that. Needless to say, the sandwiches were awesome. And headed to the bus stop to go to Granada. It took 20 euro and like 3 hours to get there. Arrived in Granada at 5:30. After putting our luggage in the hostel, we went to the go up to the hill. From the top of which you can see the view of the entire city. I’m not sure but the atmosphere in Granada was a bit different from that of Seville. I think Granada was the capital of Nasrid dynasty and the most visible evidence of that is the Alhambra palace complex built under their rule. So expecting that it should have more islamic atmosphere in Granada. Went to have tapas in the highly recommended bar in google map. there is amazing food culture named free tapas in Granada. Literally it means that you can enjoy tapas for free if you order some alcohol drinks. In the first place, we ordered 2 beers each and got 2 free tapas. And the total check was just 8 euro. I was really curious how they earn money with this amazing services. And went to the next bar and ordered two beers and one white wines. And we got three free tapas in that place. The total amount was just 6euro for two of us. It means I paid only 7 euro even though I had so many delicious food and beers in two restaurants. Ahh I will decently wanna come back to Granada in the future and recommend my friends to come. Tomorrow I will go to Alhambra palace and go to Cordoba in the afternoon.
